'Bisita Madrasah ni Mayora’ brings LGU closer to the Muslim communities

Launched on October 8, 2022, the initiative, spearheaded by the City Mayor’s Office – Integrated Cultural Communities Affairs Division (CMO-ICCAD), aims to strengthen the collaboration among Madrasah education stakeholders, particularly LGU Gensan.
General Santos City Mayor Lorelie Gernimo Pacquiao visited Madrasah Khairul Ummah Al-Islamie in Barangay Fatima, Madrasah Khairil Ummah Al-Islamie and Markaadz Manaabir Annur Al-Islamie in Barangay Tambler and Ma'Ahad Al-Molok in Barangay Labangal.
"Sa akuang termino, seguraduhon nako na nahimamat nako tanan Ustadz ug pupils para personal nako mabal an ang operation sa atuang Madaris project (In my term of office, I will make it sure to meet our Ustadz and pupils and personally know the operations of our Madaris project)," she said.
Through the visit, the city mayor was able to learn about the needs and concerns of the Madaris. Mayor Pacquiao promised to donate armchairs to be used by the Madrasah pupils.
She also committed to trying her best to make her presence felt and to strengthen support for the city's Muslim communities.
The Madrasah teachers were happy to have been visited for the first time by a city mayor. The city mayor brought some snacks and provided school bags for the learners.
"Akong hangyo na jud nato ang pagtudlo sa mga bata para mas maging responsible na citizen sa atuang syudad at maging asset dili lang sa Muslim communities kundi para sa tanan" (I urge our Madrasah teachers to teach well our pupils so that they will become responsible citizens of our city and that they will become assets not only of the Muslim communities but also of all.), she said.
"The presence of the City Mayor in Madrasah centers through visitation is truly boosting the morale of the Madrasah teachers and other stakeholders to be more active. It manifests the concern of the local officials for Madrasah education," said Jocelyn Lambac-Kanda, head of CMO-ICCAD.
She added, "Through Bisita sa Madrasah ni Mayora, the city mayor has the chance to have a glimpse of the actual status, needs, and plans of the Madrasah centers of the city and be able to guide the implementing division as to the interventions needed to help improve the Madrasah education in town."
Lambac-Kanda further related that, according to the Asatids of the four Madrasah Centers that the Mayor visited today, the initiative strengthens the connection between the local officials and Madrasah education stakeholders.
Also present were Col. Galileo Goyena, Commander of Task Force Gensan, and the representatives of General Santos City Police Office.
General Santos City has 54 Madrasah centers in 15 barangays of town that have Muslim communities.
CMO-ICCAD, is the unit of the city government that implements programs and projects for the indigenous cultural communities.
