COMELEC sets plebiscite for creation of 8 municipalities in SGA-BARMM

Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao del Norte – The Commission on Election (Comelec) expects that approximately 90,000 voters will participate in a plebiscite scheduled for April 13. This plebiscite aims to ratify the creation of eight new municipalities in the Special Geographic Area of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (SGA-BARMM).
Comelec Chairman George Garcia emphasized the significance of the plebiscite, as it will provide clarity on the areas where votes can be cast during the May 2025 elections. The Comelec plans to establish 67 voting precincts for the plebiscite.

Garcia stated, "The filing of candidacy will be in October. We are hoping there would be clarity on which areas voters would belong."

"If the 'yes' vote prevails, the creation of the towns of Kadayangan, Ligawasan, Malidegao, Nabalawag, Old Kaabakan, Kapalawan, Pahamuddin, and Tugunan will be ratified," Garcia added.

The SGA-BARMM consists of 63 barangays in North Cotabato that voted to be part of the BARMM during a plebiscite in February 2019.
