NCMF holds 42nd Regional Qur’an Reading Competition- Socsargen Area

In a bid to promote the essence of the holy book of Islam, The National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) through its Socsargen Field Office held the 42nd Regional Qur’an Reading Competition- Socsargen Area with the theme “Al Qur’an - A Gift to Mankind” on February 20, 2015 in General Santos City.

The regional competitions are hosted by the NCMF regional offices every year whose winners compete for the National Qur’an Reading Competition.

The national winners represent the Philippines to international Qur’an reading competitions in other Muslim countries like Malaysia, Bruneir and in the Middle East. 

The male contestants for this year’s regional competition in Socsargen were the following: Muharridin Ambulanan, Amer Salendab, and Anwarrudin Suhod from South Cotabato; Norrodin Haron, Yahya Japal, and Salman Maguibo from Sarangani; and Abdulmaula Abdulmaguid, Ibrahim Pakasim and Datu Anas Abo from General Santos City.

There were three female contestants namely Aida Lamalan from South Cotabato, Sawiya Samod from Sarangani and Hadja Sarah Amin from General Santos City.

The competitors gave their best to beat the defending champions Amin Pasandalan (male) and Sarifa Manza (female) who were able to retain their titles.
Bureau Director Laman M. Piang, NCMF- Bureau of Muslim Cultural Affairs, represented NCMF Secretary Yasmin Busran-Lao in the event.

In her message, Dr. Janena Tito, Bai Labi sa Sugoda Buayan, said the essence of Holy Qur’an is to bring peace to mankind and thus, it is incumbent upon the followers of Islam to promote peace and understanding.

Rajah Muda sa Sugoda Buayan Datu Abdulhamid Ingkong said the meaning of the Holy Qur’an must be understood and internalized by every Muslim.

DENR Region 12 Regional Executive Director Sultan Tungko Saikol cited the importance of providing the Moro youth with secular and Islamic education.

He also urged the audiences to emulate the trend in Lanao where huge numbers of Maranao professionals and Ulama are produced every year.

The Guest Speaker, Muhammad Sahrul Mujarab from IMT Team Site 4 based in General Santos City, suggested expanding the competition to include contest in explaining the meaning of the Holy Qur’an which was already established in his country Indonesia.

Atty. Guialil R. Kanda, NCMF Socsargen Field Director thanked the individuals and organizations which supported the activity. Among those were the Muslim Women Organization of Gensan, Royal Ladies, Sangir group, Office of the City Mayor, Sarangani- PLGU, CHAMEA, Maguindanaon Development Foundation and the Royal House of Sugoda Buayan.
