Davao Ulama condemn night market bombing

Ulama (Islamic scholars) of Davao city through Mercy Islamic Foundation (MIF) condemned the bombing incident in the night market last Friday (Sept 2) at Roxas Avenue that claimed 14 lives and injured more than 60.

In a press conference on Saturday night, MIF President Mohammad Al Kholaqi, said the attack was an act of cowardice and contrary to the teachings in Islam.

He urged the Muslims in the country particularly those from Davao to pass to the authority any information that can lead to apprehension of those behind the atrocity.

Al Kholaqi also urged the public to separate Muslims from the groups engaging in barbaric actions to advance their cause.

The National Ulama Conference of the Philippines earlier voiced out their condemnation to those behind the bloody violence in Davao city.

An education executive from the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), Dr. Pipalawan Macacua, an Iranun, was among the 14 fatality of the blast. Two other Moros residing in Cotabato city were among the injured. 

It was reported that the Abu Sayaff Group claimed responsibility to the bombing.

The incident prompted President Rodrigo Duterte to place the entire country in the state of lawlessness.
