Darussalam, a New Islamic Bookstore opens in Cotabato City

Darussalam Bookstore, a leading Islamic Bookstore in the Philippines has formally opened in Cotabato City last October 16, 2016. The bookstore is located at Door 11, 2nd Floor of Al Nor Complex Building, Sinsuat Avenue, Cotabato City. 

The establishment of the first Islamic bookstore in the city was made possible through the initiative of the Bangsamoro Youth Solidarity for Peace and Progress (BYOSOPP), a community organization that concentrates more on religious activities and community projects that also include Da’wah (Islamic Call).

The inauguration started with an invocation led by Mr. Fahad Tahir, BYOSOPP Member, followed by a Welcome Address by BYOSOPP President Mr. Jun Gulam. 

The program also included a Rationale of the establishment delivered by Mr. Ismael Espanyol of Darussalam Philippines based in Davao City.

Sheik Mahmod S. Ahmad, Executive Director of Bangsamoro Leadership Management Institute (BLMI) gave an inspirational message. The first part of the program was concluded by Engr. Johari Nor Tayuan of Darussalam Cotabato and also a member of the BYOSOPP. 

Afterwards, Officers and members of BYOSOPP and guests joined in a luncheon at Al Bayk Restaurant located at the ground level of the Bookstore.

A Symbolic Ribbon Cutting of the Formal Opening of the newly established Darussalam Bookstore-Cotabato was led by Engr. Tayuan of Darussalam Cotabato, Shiek Ahmad of BLMI, and Mr. Espanyol of Darussalam Philippines. 

The masters of ceremonies were Uz. Hattah Bilon and Salik Abdullah and event organizers from BYOSOPP Members Nasiri Abas & Jerin Mohammad.

 Business operation started right after with the presence of the Cotabateños, members of different school organizations coming from Cotabato  City State Polytechnic College and Notre Dame University , school librarians, and other individuals who have joined and witnessed the much awaited opening of the first of its kind bookstore in the city. 

Darussalam Cotabato offers a wide variety of Islamic Books from Darussalam Publications in Saudi Arabia which includes books by well-known authors and some books written by local authors in the country such as the book by Salah Jubair “Bangsamoro: A Nation Under Endless Tyranny” and other similar books on Bangsamoro struggle. 

The store also offers other products such as gift items, clothings and other ready to wear items, health products like the siwak and black seeds, Islamic decors, school supplies and many more. 

The said Bookstore operates at 10am to 8pm Monday-Sunday and at 9am to 11am and resumes at 1:30pm to 8pm on Fridays.
