MWAGG conducts information drive on illegal drugs

The Mindanao Women Advocacy for Good Governance (MWAGG) and residents of Barangay Mariki and Rio Hondo in Zamboanga City jointly conducted an Information-drive campaign on Illegal drugs in Moro dominated barangays of Zamboanga City on November 26.

MWAGG Officer Hadja Rashida Majid along with MWAGG members spearheaded the activity that was facilitated by Mr. Tirso Tahir of Bangsamoro Leadership and Management Institute (BLMI).

The activity aims to raise public awareness on the effects of ‘shabu’ and its unfavorable consequences to individuals and society.

“This is a good effort to remind those who are involved in illegal-drug trade and those addicted by “Shabu substance” to cease from pushing or using ‘shabu’ to go back to the mainstream society and live normal lives before it is too late”, one barangay official said.

Prior to the conduct of the campaign, coordination with barangay officials and other concerned agencies were made and the support from Moro Barangay Officials and their constituents were overwhelming as manifested by their active participation in the information-drive campaign.

Other Moro community leaders in other districts have already conducted similar activity with the same slogan and striking messages printed in colorful tarpaulins posted in conspicuous areas.

The activities were done through the spirit of volunteerism and self-reliance in the course of keeping the communities safe with law-abiding citizens living in harmony.

In their advocacies, Muslim Moro leaders adhered to Islamic general rule related to such undertaking as stated in noble Qur’an:

“You are the best community (Ummah) raised up for (the benefit of) humanity; enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong and believing in Allah”; Surah Al-Imran: 110 - (3:110).
