BIAF 109th Base Command holds Advocacy on Managing Frustrations

CAMP BUNAWAN, December 6, 2017 – The 109th Base Command of the Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces (BIAF)-Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) held advocacy on Managing Frustrations where the implementation of the GPH-MILF Peace Agreements was discussed; and the impact of the recently concluded Bangsamoro Assembly to the Bangsamoro broad masses.

The Assembly was held at Simuay, Sultan, Maguindanao on November 26-27, 2017.

“This advocacy can help us level off our understanding on the speech of President Rodrigo Duterte during the assembly. We have to analyze critically his statements, and at the end we can gather more support for the immediate passage of the new Bangsamoro Basic Law”, said Abas Bukol, Base Commander of the BIAF 109th Base Command.

He said that BIAF has a vital role in explaining to the masses the significant outcome of the assembly where many participants have mixed reactions on President Duterte’s message, and by that way peoples’ frustration can be managed.

Professor Esmael A. Abdula, President of Kalilintad Peacebuilding Institute, and BLMI Training Officer, and member of Steering Committee, said the MILF Democratic Struggle through the negotiation table is recognized and supported by the international community, and various local sectors for the establishment of new political entity called Bangsamoro Region.

“The recent Bangsamoro Assembly was aimed at gathering strong support for the passage of the new draft Bangsamoro Basic Law, and President Duterte was invited so that people can hear what he was going to say about the new BBL”, Abdula added.

“Implementing stages has three tracks: 1) Security-Related Measure (Bilateral Implementation), 2) Normalization Process (Bilateral Implementation), 3) Passage of the Bangsamoro Basic Law (Philippine Government’s responsibility – unilateral responsibility). The implementation of these tracks will put an end to the decades of conflict in Mindanao”, Abdula emphasized.

Abdurrahim Molilis, MILF-CCCH member, KPI Staff Khairudin Anwar, and109th Base Command Field Commanders were present during the advocacy.
