Sakkam is new Ambassador to Jordan and Palestine

Cotabato City- Former Ambassador Akmad Atlah Sakkam has been appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte as new Ambassador to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, with concurrent jurisdiction over the state of Palestine, said a report by Mindanews on April 24. 

His appointment was signed on April 18 but released to the media on April 23. 

Sakkam is a Tao Sug who hails from Indanan and Patikul in Sulu and was a member of the then 15-member Bangsamoro Transition Commission from 2014 to 2016 representing the Government of the Philippines (GPH).

Sakkam is a multi-awarded diplomat. He received a Special Presidential Award of Merit from President Corazon Aquino “for outstanding service to the country for the safe evacuation of thousands of Filipino workers from Kuwait and Iraq” during the first Gulf War of 1991.

He is also a recipient of Distinguished Service Award from the Department of Foreign Affairs in recognition of “the highest degree of professionalism and substantial contribution to the advancement of the national interests abroad in the areas of bilateral, regional and multilateral relations in 2012.”

Mohagher Iqbal, Chair of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front Peace Implementing Panel (MILF PIP), and erstwhile Chair of the Bangsamoro Transition Commission (BTC), told Luwaran in an interview that he is so glad to learned of the news on the appointment of Ambassador Sakkam.

Iqbal expressed his congratulations to Ambassador Sakkam, who during his stint in the BTC worked diligently, and cooperated well in the drafting of the old Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL).
