The National Ulama Conference of the Philippines (NUCP), a national organization of Ulama and Ulama network in the country, help in the information drive for the people to understand the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) and campaign for its acceptance by the Bangsamoro people.
In a statement of support to the BOL signed by its officers, the NUCP said that as it provides guidance and awareness for the ratification of the measure, “it appeals to the electorate in the proposed Bangsamoro autonomous region to ratify the Bangsamoro Organic Law in the name of peace, development and justice for all.”
The copy of the statement was officially handed-over to Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) Secretary-General Muhammad Ameen on Monday.
The Islamic scholars is hopeful for the success of the plebiscite and also urged the Bangsamoro people to be prepared to take part in the capacity development towards building the foundation of the Bangsamoro governance.
They will intensify their drives in support for the ratification of BOL through the Ulama members in the proposed Bangsamoro territory.
For more than a decade, the NUCP has been active is peace advocacy and capacity-building of the Ulama members as well as issuing statements on major issues and concerns affecting the Muslims in the country. The organization is headed by Dr. Hamid Barra.
The BOL, passed by the 17th Congress, provides the establishment of the Bangsamoro autonomous government that shall answer the yearning of the Bangsamoro people for self-governance.
The measure is the legal translation of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro, a peace deal signed in 2014 by the Philippine Government and the MILF.
The Bangsamoro Transition Commission (BTC) drafted the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) which was renamed as BOL.
