Bangsamoro Parliament passes bills on BARMM Official Flag and Emblem

Cotabato City- The Bangsamoro Parliament of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) recently approved in two separate sessions two important bills at SKCC Complex, BARMM Compound Cotabato City. 

The Bill No. 1, entitled: “An act adopting an Official Flag of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao was passed by the Bangsamoro Parliament on August 23, 2019.

The Crescent in the Bangsamoro Official Flag symbolized the historical background of the Bangsamoro struggle for Self-determination. While, the seven-rayed Star represents the five (5) provinces of Maguindanao, Lanao del sur including the City of Marawi, Basilan including the City of Lamitan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, the City of Cotabato City, and the 63 barangays of North Cotabato that composed the Bangsamoro and other indigenous people in the Bangsamoro territory.

The 63 barangays opted to join the Bangsamoro during a plebiscite held early this year.  

Both the “Crescent and Star” colored golden yellow signify the bright future of the Bangsamoro in the BARMM. The “Kris” in the middle red portion symbolizes the protection and resistance of the Bangsamoro and other indigenous peoples in the Bangsamoro territory against oppression, tyranny, and injustice.

The Bangsamoro Emblem/Seal

The Bangsamoro Flag shall always be regarded with utmost respect and admiration. The Philippine Flag shall always be displayed alongside with the Bangsamoro.  Other offices of the Bangsamoro outside its area of autonomy are likewise required to use and display the Bangsamoro Flag, pursuant to Section 2, Art. II of RA 11054.

Meanwhile, BTA Bill No. 2, entitled: “An act adopting an Official Emblem of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Mindanao was passed on August 29, 2019. 

Section 1 of the bill says that, The BTA Parliament adopted the Bangsamoro Official Emblem for the authentication of the exercise its official acts and other purpose. Section 2, Declaration of Policy; aims to establish itself as a political entity that recognizes the justness and legitimacy of the cause of the Bangsamoro people.

 The Official Bangsamoro Seal shall be in circular in design. The outermost part of the Official Bangsamoro Seal shall be bordered by rope. In its center is a Crescent with seven-rayed Star on its right.  

The rope symbolizes the unity of the Bangsamoro, Non-Bangsamoro indigenous peoples, and other people in the BARMM, as inspired by verse: 3:103 of the Noble Qur’an which says, “Hold tight to the rope of Allah, together. And be not divided

The two aforesaid BTA Act Nos. 1 and 2 were authored by ICM Al Haj Ahod B. Ebrahim aka Al Haj Murad Ebrahim.           

These Acts shall take effect fifteen (15) days after its publication in a newspaper of regional circulation in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
