ZC Community and Fisher folks’ Leaders engage in FGD 

Some of Zamboanga City’s Moro Community Leaders and heads of fisher folks participated in a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on organizational strengthening of People’s Organization (PO) and Community Organizing at Barangay Sangali on October 22.

The FDG was also aimed to raise awareness of the laymen’s sectors in order to advance their welfare by knowing their lawful rights and determine proper approaches in conducting peace advocacy and forum that may hasten unity and understanding on Bangsamoro legitimate struggle towards Right to Self-Determination (RSD). 

The FGD was conducted through the joint efforts of the Bangsamoro Leadership and Management Institute (BLMI) and United Youth for Peace and Development (UNYPAD). 

Officers from BLMI and UNYPAD Mr. Tirso Tahir and Brother “Phix”, respectively, with the participation of another CSO Head Mr. Maksu Magang had facilitated a series of meetings and peace advocacy in the Bangsamoro grassroots in Zamboanga City in the past months. 

“The dynamics of community organizing in parallel with ideology, political and organization (IPO)”, Mr. Tahir stressed.

“The strength and success of organization is not only due to good leadership, but on how leaders mobilize and influence the masses to work collectively for one common purpose”, Tahir said. 

Mr. Magang discussed about Leader’s Competency and Dispensation of Commitment where the interest of the people must prevail over one’s personal whims.

The concept of effective community organizing and its doable structure was also discussed by Brother “Phix” saying that community organizing- is a process where people who live in proximity with each other come together into an organization that act according to their “shared interest”. 

In the course of discussions, the participants shared their respective views on the issues by incorporating it into one doable strategy and approach. 

The Bangsamoro political issue such as GPH-MILF Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB) and the proposed redrafting of CAB-compliant BBL are main issues that were frequently discussed in various meetings, forums and advocacies in the Bangsamoro areas.
