ICRC spent 4.3$ Million assistance for IDPs in Marawi

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) had already spent $4,396,000 in assistance to more than 100,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Marawi conflict from May 23 to September 30, 2017. 

The ICRC said that this assistance focused on health care with $349,000, Water and sanitation is $396,000, Cooperation with Philippine Red Cross (PRC) is about $267,000, for the Protection they allotted $547,000, and the bigger amount was spent on Assistance amounting to 2,837,000. 

The protection program of ICRC had to maintain a dialogue with parties to the conflict and monitored respect of humanitarian norms related to the conduct of hostilities, and protection of civilians, health facilities and staff, wounded and arrested people. 

According to the ICRC data, they have evacuated more than 860 civilians from Marawi to safer places while around 150 people were reunited with a missing family member with the help of PRC. 

They visited 47 people in jail who were arrested in Marawi to ensure proper treatment and living conditions. There are also 460 body bags and other materials provided to authorized retrieval groups, and 125 of their personnel trained on proper handling of human remains. 

In cooperation with Philippine Red Cross (PRC), the ICRC supported the PRC response team in Iligan and Lanao del Norte on first aid, basic health care units, blood provision, water and sanitation, psychosocial support, reuniting families, and mobilizing volunteers. 

On ICRC assistance component program, the Committee has assisted 34,960 displaced people received half-month food rations in Marawi City and in 5 municipalities of Lanao del Sur and 63,205 displaced people received essential household and hygiene items in Marawi City and in 8 municipalities of Lanao del Sur. 

There are 9 health facilities received medical supplies to treat more than 500 wounded and sick people; 15 rural health units received 20 emergency health kits (each for the treatment of 10,000 sick people for 3 months); and 140 health workers from 14 health facilities in the east of Lake Lanao trained on diarrhea prevention for the Health Care component. 

On water and sanitation program, ICRC said that there are “15,000 displaced people and residents gained enhanced access to water supply through deployment of mobile water-treatment units and by powering 2 pumping stations.”
