Stakeholders to join worldwide celebration of Universal Children’s Day

Stakeholders from the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) will organize an event with the theme "Quality Education to Stop Violence Against Children" as way of joining the worldwide celebration World Children’s Day (WCD) on November 20 to be held at the Shariff Kabunsuan Cultural Complex, ORG Compound, Cotabato City.

The activity will be spearheaded by the Regional Human Rights Commission (RHRC) in and Department of Education (DepED)-ARMM, with the support of Plan International, Save the Children, ACF, The Moropreneur, Sherrienity, Dashap and Zohayma Montañer.

The celebration marks the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) by the United Nations General Assembly in 1989.

The organizers said the activity aims to “reaffirm each and everyone’s obligation to enable all children to survive and thrive, learn and grow, have their voices heard and reach their full potential.”

Around 200 children from the provinces of Maguindanao, Lanao, Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi are expected to join.

Aside from celebrating the children for who they are, WCD also brings awareness to children around the world that have succumbed to violence in forms of abuse, exploitation and discrimination.

The Philippines is one of the countries which adopted the Convention of the Rights of a Child.

CRC is a treaty the sets out the sets out the civil, political, economic, social, health and cultural rights of children.
