BARMM_Darul Ifta’ sets date for moon sighting in preparation for Ramadan

The Darul Ifta’of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao - (BARMM) announced on Thursday (April 16) that the date of moon sighting will be on April 22, 2020  which will determine the start of Ramadan.
Sheikh Abuhuraira Udasan, Mufti of the Bangsamoro, related that they agreed in their meeting that if the moon will be sighted on Wednesday, April 22, 2020 “the first day of Ramadan would be Thursday April 23, 2020.”

He said, “However, if it is not sighted then Thursday will be the 30th day of Shab?n, and Friday, April 24, 2020 is the first day of Ramadan.”

Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, is observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting, prayer, and reflection.

During this month able-bodied adult Muslims are obliged to fast from dawn till sunset. While fasting, eating, drinking and engaging is sexual acts are prohibited.

In preparation for Ramadan, Muslims are encouraged to do some preparation like making right intention, setting Ramadan goals, increasing qur’an recitation and engaging in community service like mobilizing resources for free iftar.
